Valentine’s Day is often wrapped in romance—flowers, chocolates, and grand gestures.
But love is so much more than a single day or a single kind of relationship.
It’s the time we take, the presence we offer, the small, everyday ways we honour those who mean the most to us.
As I’ve grown older, I’ve come to understand how fleeting time is.
I’ve lost people I love. I’ve experienced heartache. And I’ve also learned how precious it is to cherish what we have while we have it.
Love isn’t just about romance; it’s about showing up—for our partners, our friends, our family, and those who may be feeling alone, especially during this time of year.
For those who are navigating loss—whether through the death of a loved one, a divorce, or separation—this time of year can increase the feelings of loneliness and isolation.
While romantic love is often celebrated, universal love, the love we share with friends, family, and community, can be even more powerful. A small gesture of kindness, a thoughtful message, or an unexpected visit can make all the difference to someone who may be struggling.
Galentine’s Day ( a day to celebrate with your gal & pal friends) is a wonderful way to celebrate friendships, but beyond that, its important to remember to uplift and reach out to those who need it most.
Love is universal, and it is up to us to remind those around us that they are not alone.
A few days ago my husband and I took a simple walk by the lake, laughing, talking, and just being together—no agenda, no distractions.
These small moments are the ones that truly matter. Love isn’t about grand gestures; it’s about the quiet, consistent ways we say,
“I see you. I appreciate you. I am here.”
And if you realize you’ve been too busy to nurture the relationships in your life, the beautiful thing is—you can start again today.
Love the one you are with.
Points to Ponder:
Who in your life could use a reminder that they are loved and appreciated?
Have you taken the time to truly be present with the people who matter most to you?
If you’re feeling disconnected, what’s one small step you can take to bridge that gap today?
Simple Ways to Treasure Time with Someone:
Take a walk together—no phones, no distractions, just connection.
Pick up the ingredients for a cozy meal and surprise a friend or loved one.
Invite someone out for coffee, even if just for 20 minutes—it can make a world of difference.

Romancing Yourself: Honoring Your Own Presence
Love isn’t just about what we give to others—it’s also about how we cherish ourselves. If you are spending this Valentine’s Day alone, take it as an opportunity to romance yourself. Treat your senses to something beautiful:
Buy yourself fragrant flowers or light your favorite candle.
Indulge in a massage or a luxurious bath.
Cook or order an elegant meal with all the trappings.
Splurge on a small indulgence—maybe a rich coffee, a special dessert, or a book you’ve been longing for.
Find ways to experience opulence without breaking the bank—browse antique stores, explore seasonal sales, or get creative in curating your own beautiful experience.
You are deserving of love, care, and appreciation—both from others and from yourself.
Every day is an opportunity to love more, to appreciate more, and to be present for the people around us. Never take that for granted.
With love and presence, Marianne
